Do you love snow? I\u2019ve always loved it, but today I love it a little bit more. You see, I\u2019ve lived in sub-tropical Australia for the last six years. \u201cCold\u201d there is 50\u00b0 Fahrenheit. So, as you might\u2019ve guessed, it doesn\u2019t snow. To be clear, there are places in Australia where it does snow, but not where I lived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last month, our family moved back to the United States, Colorado to be precise. And today, after a cold, quiet night\u2019s accumulation, a perfect blanket of snow covers everything. It\u2019s been years since I\u2019ve experienced this\u2014waking up to a thick, uniform blanket of snow, dappled with early morning light, covering everything as far as the eye can see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Everything<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My mind immediately springs to that blessed promise of \u201cthe Gospel Prophet,\u201d Isaiah: \u201c\u2018Come now, let\u2019s settle this,\u2019 says the Lord. \u2018Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool\u2019\u201d (Isaiah 1:18, NLT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n God is in the business of settling<\/em> things\u2014of fixing, repairing, and sorting out things.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n I really like how the NLT renders the invitation from God: \u201cCome now, let\u2019s settle this.\u201d God is in the business of settling<\/em> things\u2014of fixing, repairing, and sorting out things. He is the Healer and Restorer. God has both the desire and the power to settle <\/em>the human problem of sin and guilt. So, He makes the invitation to you and me: \u201cCome now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n God has it sorted. He has a plan, and He wants to share it with you, personally. But you need to come and listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And what is His plan? To forgive <\/em>you your sin, to cover <\/em>it. He wants to cover it so thoroughly and completely that it cannot be seen. In its place will be beauty and light\u2014a blanket of white perfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Like snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n God\u2019s righteousness given <\/em>to you. God\u2019s forgiveness covering <\/em>you. God\u2019s love embracing <\/em>you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How did Peter, himself quite a sinner, put it? \u201cLove covers over a multitude of sins\u201d (1 Peter 4:8, NIV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Yes, having grown up in Wyoming and South Dakota, I\u2019ve always loved snow. It\u2019s fun, beautiful, and almost magical. (Plus, of course, lots of snow meant no school! <\/em>And when you\u2019re a child, what could be better than that?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Today, after six years away from the sight that now lays before me, I love it a little bit more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Do you love snow?
