Lord God Almighty, ineffably holy,
Great in weakness, immeasurably lowly,
From the corner of my eye, I see Your glory,
Through prophets of old who breathed Your story.

But sweep me into the narrative now,
Resisting no longer, Your will to allow,
Not mere words on ancient page,
But present Word on present stage.

Paradoxical love, with mercy’s fury dripping,
Hunt me with passion, with tenderness ripping,
Into my soul where cherished lies reside,
Piercing the darkness where in shame I hide.

Capture my vision that strays to illusion,
Regard not as violent mercy’s intrusion,
Cease the knocking, break down the door,
I want You less even as I want you more.

Enthrall my affections, brutalized by lust,
Enrapture my emotions, divinized by trust,
Lure me from my self, me away from me,
Slave to Your heart, yet finally free.

As the minutes unfold and the hours fly by,
As the year makes me older and I grope and sigh,
Younger with innocence may I become with time,
The fatal wound healing by Your grace sublime.

Deeper, yet deeper in Your love to repose,
Lesser and lesser Your will to oppose,
‘Til I am truly myself in Christ,
Your love alone for me to suffice.
